MCLEAN, Va. - Homewood Suites by Hilton, an international brand of all-suite, residential-style hotels, today announced the availability of its third children’s book. “Lewis the Duck Goes to Mexico” finds the brand’s mascot and his family on an exciting adventure through Mexico. The first book, “Lewis the Duck and His Long Trip” was introduced in 2008, and was followed a year later by “Lewis the Duck goes to Canada.”

The idea for this latest book came from Christian Duncan, the 17 year-old son of Homewood Suites Global Head, Bill Duncan, who came to his father wanting to center a storyline on how kids help plan family vacations. This idea aligned perfectly with brand research illustrating that more and more kids are actively involved in planning family trips.

“Christian is an important part of our family’s travel planning, so he definitely has some first-hand experience on the topic,” said Duncan. “The fact that Christian’s idea aligned so well with what we’ve heard from our guests who are engaging their own children in the travel process made this an even more engaging story.”

In Lewis’s journey to Mexico, he is able to bring along his wife, Lois, and two kids – Lance and Lisa, who help plan the trip. During their swing through the country, the family frolics on the sandy beaches of Cancun, Cabo San Lucas, Acapulco and Cozumel, do some shopping in Mexico City and Guadalajara, and visit an active volcano near the city of Puebla. They also make day trips to the Mayan and Aztec ruins, hike through tropical rain forests, and see a few soccer games – the most popular sport in Mexico.

Homewood Suites has printed nearly 100,000 copies of the three books, which are available for purchase at every Homewood Suites location, as well as on www.LewistheDuck.com. Also on the site is an interactive game, activity sheets, quacky card creator, and luggage tag maker. With frequent updates, content stays fresh and interactive for children and are all based on Lewis’s adventures.

In addition to the website and book series, Homewood Suites supports literacy through a partnership with the Books for Kids Foundation, a non-profit organization that transforms unused rooms in Head Start and community centers into magical reading libraries for high-risk, pre-school children. Homewood Suites has constructed two of these libraries since July and plans on more in 2011; helping to generate more awareness early childhood literacy.
