CHICAGO, Ill. - Hampton Inn by Hilton and Homewood Suites by Hilton Chicago Downtown / West Loop announced today that its building, located at 116-118 N Jefferson, Chicago, IL, has been awarded LEED Silver. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

Hampton Inn by Hilton and Homewood Suites by Hilton Chicago Downtown / West Loop achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

LEED is the leading program for the design, construction and operation of green buildings. There are four levels of LEED Certification: LEED Certified, LEED Silver, LEED Gold and LEED Platinum. More than 89,600 commercial projects are currently participating in LEED, comprising more than 17.1 billion square feet of construction space in all 50 states and more than 164 countries and territories.

The properties were developed and are owned by a joint venture between Chicago's Jupiter Realty Co. and Boston-based Intercontinental Real Estate Corporation. The hotels are managed by Hostmark Hospitality Group.

The announcement comes just after Hilton's weeklong celebration of Earth Week which started March 19. All Hilton properties celebrated this week by engaging and challenging both staff and guests to become more environmentally aware. Hampton Inn by Hilton and Homewood Suites by Hilton Chicago Downtown / West Loop are working with Openlands, a Chicago organization based in Downtown Chicago. The hotels are raising money through the support of employees and guests to help purchase, plant and maintain trees in the Chicagoland area.
